After breakfast you will play Trump Doonbeg. The world renowned 18-hole championship course at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg, spans 1.5 miles of crescent shaped beach and century old sand dunes along Doughmore Bay. The County Clare, Ireland golf course was officially opened in 2002 and immediately earned the prestigious title of Golf Digest’s Best New International Course. In 2010, Trump International Doonbeg was awarded European Golf Resort of the Year by the IAGTO.
As early as 1892, officers of the Scottish Black Watch Regiment considered Doonbeg an ideal setting for links golf Ireland. Since then Trump Doonbeg has been transformed by Dr. Martin Hawtree to one of the ‘must play’ golf courses on the international circuit. He has allowed the character and soul of the land to flourish while enhancing the playability tenfold. Every hole has its own identity which will both reward and challenge each golfer.
Lahinch Golf Club is an experience. It is rugged, natural, and authentic. Legends of golf course architecture have laid out a course over some of the best links land the world has to offer. The craft of Old Tom Morris, Alister MacKenzie and Martin Hawtree has been equal to the site they had to work with. The result is nothing less than mesmerizing.
The Inagh River empties into Liscannor Bay and the Atlantic Ocean with the golden sands of Lahinch Beach providing the backdrop to the world-class golfing destination.
It is world-class and rightly deserves its spot in the discussion of the world’s best.
You will play the iconic Old Course today. Located on the north west coast of County Kerry, on a beautiful stretch of sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find a wonderfully challenging and unique links golf courses at Ballybunion – the Old Course.
The Old Course exudes a majestic feel that simply cannot be compared to any other course on earth. With beautifully contoured fairways that tumble down through a blanket of grassy dunes, it’s no wonder these challenging holes have been consistently rated among the top courses in the world.
Five-time Open champion Tom Watson – the club’s millennium captain who has also advised on a few changes over the years – has been a great fan since first visiting more than 40 years ago. Back then he described it as the best in the world, and that “after playing Ballybunion for the first time, a man would think that the game of golf originated here.”
After your round you will stay in Killarney for the next 4 nights. Located by the shores of the famous Lakes of Killarney within the heart of the Killarney National Park , the Lake Hotel is a family run establishment in one of the most beautiful settings in Ireland. Overlooking the lakes, the Castlelough Restaurant has a relaxed but refined atmosphere. The extensive menu mixes traditional Irish dishes with modern continental cuisine and uses fresh local produce. Less formal dining is available in the Lakeside Bistro which is adjacent to the bar which also host regular live traditional music nights.
Situated on the rugged Atlantic coast of Ireland’s south west, the links features towering dunes, undulating fairways, punishing rough and cliff top tees and greens. Designed and built by Arnold Palmer, this stunning setting represents a true paradise for those willing to challenge what is widely acclaimed as one of the finest links courses in the world.
Arnold Palmer has said many times ‘I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course’. Also famously said ‘I may of designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine’
Waterville Golf Links is laid out on an isthmus of natural dune-land, bordered on its western flank by the Wild Atlantic Ocean, its Northern boundary by the Inny river, its Eastern verge by the Inny Estuary, and on its Southern margin with native bogland. This unique site location ensures a complete and unspoilt visual and audible environment– affording a unique tranquillity that is unmatched in golf.
The towering dune-land, and the genial course layout, assures that each hole is set apart from one another, while the natural dune flora frames the fairways and greens with pictorial and sensory delight. The Irish Hare is our most noticeable inhabitant of the links, and sits proudly as our course emblem, but keep a look out for our many other inhabitants – there are over fifty different species of birds alone that inhabit or frequent the links on a regular basis.
Old Head Golf Links is built on a 220-acre diamond of land jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath your feet as you play the course. The links and practice area occupy 180 acres and the remaining 40 acres of unspoilt cliff frame the course. It is a piece of golf real estate like no other, that causes many a golfer and visitor to pinch themselves as they drive through the ancient gateway with the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean some 300 feet below.
The sensory overload does not stop there with the journey along the fragrant Hydrangea and Rosa Rugosa lining the Old Head driveway providing stunning vistas across the superbly manicured golf course, with the powerful ocean on both sides and beyond the famous lighthouse that lies in front.
Old Head, par 72, comprises five Par 5s, five Par 3s and eight Par 4s – stretches from the ladies’ tees at 5,413 yards to over 7,100 yards from the tips, with a minimum of six tees per hole making it suitable for golfers of all handicap abilities. Nine holes play along the cliff tops with all eighteen holes providing unsurpassed ocean views. With the ever-changing sea breezes, the course provides a stern but fair test to the touring pro and the high handicapper alike.
